Celebrating 130 Years of Music
The Austral Salon of Music is a non-profit organization founded in 1890 to encourage the Arts. Commencing with Lady Hopetoun in 1890 and continuing until the retirement of Mrs Elizabeth Chernov in 2015, the spouse of the Governor of Victoria was the Patron of the Austral Salon.
The Austral Salon members are music lovers committed to encouraging young musicians by providing an interested and supportive audience.
Many of the young musicians are students at the Victorian College of the Arts, the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the Australian National Academy of Music, and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.
Austral Salon members meet monthly for a Lunchtime Recital in the CBD to:
provide a supportive and encouraging audience for young musicians
help develop the musicians’ performance skills
provide an opportunity to meet friends
The lunchtime Recitals are held in the Main Hall at St Peters Church, East Melbourne.
Join us for one of our wonderful recitals by young musicians.
