Celebrating 134 Years of Music

The Austral Salon of Music is a non-profit organization founded in 1890 to encourage the Arts. It is proud of its wide community involvement since its inception 134 years ago.

Today, the Austral Salon members are music lovers committed to encouraging young musicians.

Monthly Lunchtime Recitals are held in the CBD to:
• provide a supportive and encouraging audience for emerging musicians
• help develop the young musicians’ performance skills
• provide an opportunity to meet musically minded friends

Many of the young musicians who give recitals at the Austral Salon are present or past students at the Victorian College of the Arts, the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the Australian National Academy of Music, and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.

Since 2011, the Austral Salon has been making annual awards to the students at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in categories including Outstanding Soloist, Composition and Voice.

Young musicians who performed at the Austral Salon during 2022 included Anna Gao pianist, who was the National and Victorian Young Performer of the Year, and Jamie Miles violist, who was a Victorian runner up.

Join us for one of our wonderful recitals by young musicians.
