PIANO RECITAL BY YII YING TAN
Renowned for her passion and restless curiosity, Yii Ying is a young pianist who is enthusiastic about classical music, particularly music by lesser-known composers. She has recently obtained a double degree – Bachelor of Music/Commerce, studying under Dr Kenji Fujimura at The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, Monash University, majoring in classical piano.
Born in 1996 in Malaysia, Yii Ying has been playing the piano since she was six and has won a numerous international and local competitions. She has performed in Malaysia, China, USA, Italy and Australia. Recent achievements include a debut of Glanville-Hicks’ Etruscan Concerto at Robert Blackwood Hall with the Monash Academy Orchestra; a sold-out solo recital in collaboration with Casa Capriccio Musica in Kuching, Malaysia; a performance in the Lincoln Centre, New York City; as well as obtaining Silver and Bronze Prize in both Young Artist and Open Category in the Kingsburg International Piano Competition held in China.
Yii Ying has also explored a wide variety of chamber music, with combinations that are rarely performed such as piano for six hands, music with acting components and voice/cello/piano. She was also specifically chosen by Paul Grabowsky to be involved in a performance and recording project with the Monash Arts Ensemble.
Yii Ying’s program will be Mozart’s Piano Sonata in D major, K. 576, Poem for Piano by Armenian composer Babajanian, Australian Iris de Cairos-Rego's Waltz in E and Clara Schumann's Piano sonata in G minor
